I’m not sure when I started writing music, though it seems to have been back in the late seventies when Clare and I were first married and I got my first guitar. Memories of songs I wrote then are still fresh, so let’s consider those tracks real and leading to the present.
Like poetry, music has just come through me with a will of its own. The writing feels much like writing poetry, only the melody rides along. Most of what I’ve written has come with a guitar involved. Recently after taking up piano, I find that it’s the same process, just letting it flow, looking for the right chords, allowing the melody, pacing, rhythm to take care of themselves.
In 2000 I started writing with Charlotte Hisey, and have collaborated on a greate deal of what I write with her. She has similarly shared her musical writing with me for editing and growth. Togehter we have begun marketing our music for others to perform.
